A Place of Comfort and Remembrance

At one of the most difficult times in our lives when we face the pain of our greatest loss, the Abbey Church offers a place of comfort and support. Although funerals are times to express our sorrow and loss, they also offer the opportunity to remember and celebrate an individual’s life.

Church Funerals, Memorial Services & Celebrations of Life

At a funeral held in the Abbey Church the coffin of the deceased is present, and the service is usually organised through a funeral home. A Memorial Service or Celebration of Life is arranged directly with the Church by the family, and often just the ashes or a photograph of the person is present.

The Abbey Church clergy conduct funeral and memorial services in the church but also at funeral homes and other venues on request.

The Memorial Garden

The grounds of the Abbey Community and Church now feature a Memorial Garden where ashes are buried. The garden features a standing stone with a carved tree of life where small leaf plaques are added to acknowledge the deceased. This garden is available for Church members, their families and those affiliated with the Abbey Community. A cost applies, currently $250.

Wakes at Abbey Hall

The Abbey Hall is available to be hired for a Wake, a fee applies, from $80. Contact for a caterer can be supplied on request.

Can we have a funeral at the Abbey Church if we are not members?

Yes. This can be organised through a funeral home with the Church.

Where can our loved one be laid to rest at the Abbey?

Ashes are not scattered in the Abbey gardens. The Abbey has a Memorial Garden with a Tree of Life, available to Church members, their families and those directly affiliated with the Abbey Community, and a cost applies, currently $250. The Abbey Church cemetery is private and is for members of the Abbey Community only. For more information please contact the Abbey Church at enquiries@abbeychurch.com.au.

What does a funeral or memorial service cost?

For a funeral arranged through a funeral home, the cost is managed by the funeral directors. A Memorial Service or Celebration of Life arranged directly with the Church attracts a donation towards associated costs and the maintenance of the church and grounds, suggested at $250 minimum.

Can we hire the church and bring our own celebrant?

No. The Abbey Church is not available for hire, and only Abbey Church clergy conduct funeral, memorial and celebration of life services. At all of these services the family is welcome to invite others to speak.
